Yi Zhang, PhD, has been named assistant professor in the Duke Department of Neurosurgery, effective January 1, 2024. Zhang’s lab focuses on computational biology, bioinformatics, and machine learning in genomics. She is a faculty member in the Brain Tumor Omics Program in the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke, and holds a secondary appointment in the Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics.
Zhang obtained PhD in Bioengineering at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She then joined the lab of X. Shirley Liu as a research fellow at Department of Data Science, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard University School of Public Health.
Zhang will lead a computational biology lab with interest in developing machine learning methods for single-cell and multi-omic data and building models that combines genetics and functional genomics, to understand multi-cellular systems like cancer and brain tumors.
