The Duke Department of Neurosurgery combines compassionate care and the latest research advances to treat brain aneurysm and stroke, brain tumors, skull base tumors, spine and musculoskeletal conditions, movement disorders, chronic pain, and more. Our neurosurgery program is nationally ranked by U.S. News & World Report and is one of the nation's premiere clinical neurosurgery units.
At Duke Neurosurgery, we believe in the extraordinary impact of generosity. The support of our philanthropic partners enables us to train the next generation of scientists, ensure that every patient receives the highest standard of care, build and sustain meaningful community partnerships, and accelerate groundbreaking research. Our philanthropic partners help save lives.
As part of a university-wide effort, Duke Health is embarking on the ambitious MADE FOR THIS campaign to generate resources that will propel innovation, drive discovery, and improve lives around the world. We’re uniting all the extraordinary members of the Duke Health community to meet this moment. That means scientists, clinicians, educators, learners, staff, patients, community partners … AND YOU.
Together, we can achieve extraordinary outcomes and make a lasting impact on the world.

You can support the work of Duke Neurosurgery by making a gift in one of the following areas:
Duke Brain Aneurysm Fund
Nearly half a million people worldwide die of ruptured brain aneurysms every year, and half the victims are younger than 50.
In the United States alone, some 30,000 people each year suffer a brain aneurysm rupture, and the prognosis for most of them is very poor: four in 10 cases are fatal, and of those who survive, about two-thirds suffer permanent neurological damage.
Neurosurgery Residents Fund
The Duke Neurosurgery Resident Fund supports trainees’ participation in innovative research projects, attendance at national meetings, specialized training at other sites, and involvement in outreach programs from North Carolina to Uganda. Gifts to this fund further Duke Neurosurgery's mission of excellence in education, research, and patient care.
Duke Center for Brain and Spine Metastasis
As people are now surviving longer with cancer, many of them come to see their cancer spread to their brain or spine. The Duke Center for Brain and Spine Metastasis brings together specialists from neurosurgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, and palliative care all work together seamlessly to design cutting edge treatment plans, tailored to each patient.. Duke offers some of the most advanced surgeries and treatments, even for patients who may have been told they are out of such options.
The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center
Duke’s brain tumor program was one of the earliest in the country, founded in 1937. Today, the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke sees approximately 900 new adult brain tumor patients and 75 new pediatric brain tumor patients per year from across the country and around the world. Patients come to Duke for the most advanced treatments – often therapies that are not available anywhere else. Duke’s brain cancer specialists are recognized leaders in brain cancer who co-developed a vaccine that extends the lives of people with glioblastoma, an aggressive type of brain tumor. Research continues to make the vaccine stronger and the immune response more powerful.
