Suthana named Carol Gram Deane Presidential Distinguished Professor in Neurosurgery

Duke Neurosurgery faculty member Nanthia Suthana, PhD, has been awarded a distinguished professorship by the Duke University Board of Trustees.

“It is truly an honor to receive this distinguished professorship,” Suthana said of the Carol Gram Deane Presidential Distinguished Professorship. “I look forward to working alongside an exceptional community to drive interdisciplinary collaboration and advance brain health.”

Suthana’s research aims to advance our understanding of the neural mechanisms underlying memory and emotion, with a focus on developing innovative neuromodulation and neuroimaging technologies.

By integrating intracranial electrophysiological recordings with non-invasive peripheral measurements, she seeks to improve treatments for neurological and psychiatric disorders and provide new tools for studying brain function in real-world contexts.

Suthana is an internationally recognized neuroscientist and neurotechnology innovator whose work has transformed the study of human brain function, cognitive neuroscience, brain-machine interfaces, and translational neurotechnology.

She is one of 38 faculty awarded distinguished professorships this year, 22 of whom are in the School of Medicine.

Distinguished professorships are awarded to faculty who have demonstrated extraordinary scholarship in advancing science and improving human health.
