Suthana joins the Department of Neurosurgery

Nanthia Suthana, PhD, has joined the faculty of the Duke Department of Neurosurgery. Suthana specializes in studying the neural mechanisms of cognition and behavior in naturalistic settings. She develops and applies invasive neuroimaging and electrophysiology techniques including mobile intracranial recordings and deep brain stimulation to investigate memory, spatial navigation, and neurostimulation-based therapies. Her research has been published in leading journals such as Nature, New England Journal of Medicine, and Neuron and has been supported by major funding agencies including the National Institutes of Health, the McKnight Foundation, and the Keck Foundation.

At Duke, she aims to advance translational neuroengineering and interdisciplinary collaborations to develop novel therapies for neurological and psychiatric disorders.

Suthana joins Duke from the University of California, Los Angeles, where she was a principal investigator with faculty appointments in the departments of Psychiatry, Neurosurgery, Bioengineering and Psychology. She completed her PhD in neuroscience at UCLA, followed by postdoctoral training in the Department of Neurosurgery at UCLA prior to joining the faculty.
