FAST action critical to recognizing, treating strokes

When it comes to treatment for a stroke, every hour missed means a 20 percent less chance of recovery.

Fernando Gonzalez, MD, a neurosurgeon at Duke Raleigh Hospital recently spoke with WRAL News about recognizing and quickly seeking help for strokes.

Anyone who suspects a family member or co-worker is having a stroke should remember the acronym FAST:

F - Face drooping

A - Arm weakness

S - Speech difficulty

T - Time to call 911
