In a recent podcast, Malcolm Gladwell asserts that the measure of gun violence in this country is not gun deaths, because of our advanced treatment for trauma.
Gladwell, a journalist and author, interviewed Duke neurosurgeon Jordan Komisarow, MD, a trauma specialist, for the September 21, 2023 podcast entitled “Guns Part 4: Moral Hazard.” The episode included discussion of Komisarow’s research into the assassination of Senator Robert Kennedy in 1968 and the likelihood of his survival had he had access to today’s surgical advancements.
Komisarow, along with Duke colleagues Ted Pappas, MD and Nandan Lad, MD, PhD, has written previously about the assassination of Kennedy, examining the Senator’s injuries, surgical care, and autopsy.
