Peter Fecci, MD, PhD, was granted membership to the American Academy of Neurological Surgery at the society’s annual meeting last month in Sea Island, Georgia.
Fecci was nominated by his long-time friend and mentor, Allan Friedman, MD.
“I’m incredibly honored,” Fecci said. “I really appreciate the nominations from within the department and the support at the meeting where they decided on new members. It’s an accomplishment I’m very proud of.”
The Academy is neurosurgery’s most prestigious society, with admission requiring membership approval based on stringent and rigorous academic criteria. The leading neurosurgical organization in North America, the Academy focuses on promoting, sponsoring, and mentoring laboratory, translational, and clinical research in the neurological sciences. Their mission is to foster scientific discovery and innovative research seeking to better the lives of patients suffering from neurological and surgical disorders.
During the annual meeting, Fecci presented his lab’s work on the capacity of CD8+ T cells to kill certain tumor cells.
Fecci is the Director of the Duke Center for Brain and Spine Metastasis.
