Kathy Tobin Named to Leadership of National Society

Duke Neurosurgery Chief Administrator Kathy Tobin has been named chair of the Education Committee for the Neurosurgery Executives' Resource Value & Education Society(NERVES). This appointment follows previous appointments to Southeast Regional Director of the society and the Liaison to the Practice Management Committee of the AANS, roles she still holds.

The Education Committee is in charge of hosting monthly educational webinars for the members as well as helping prepare content for the national meeting.

NERVES was established for the purpose of helping neurosurgery practice managers and administrators strengthen their practices. It is the only national neurosurgery organization of its kind. The organization which comprises more than 200 members and is led by a 15-person board, including two surgeons.

Tobin leads the management and coordination of all clinical and academic functions associated with Duke Neurosurgery, including finance, budget, strategic planning, human resources, facilities, and grant administration. In this role, she led the transition of Duke Neurosurgery from division to full department, putting in place processes, staffing, and infrastructure. Previously, she served as administrative director of the Duke Division of Hematologic Malignancies and Cellular Therapy. Before arriving at Duke, Tobin worked in various leadership and advisory positions in health and human services at both the state and federal level. She holds a BA in Economics, a Master of Business Administration, and a Master of Science in Health Care Administration.
