Duke Study is One of Most-Mentioned in 2018

A study by Duke Neurosurgery researchers and others, published in the New England Journal of Medicine is one of the most-mentioned scholarly articles of 2018, according to Altmetric.

Altmetric is a data science company that tracks and analyzes the online activity around scholarly literature. They have published a top-100 list since 2013.

The Duke study reported the results of a phase 1 clincial trial with a modified poliovirus that showed significantly improved long-term survival for glioblastoma patients of 21 percent after three years. Comparatively, just four percent of patients at Duke with the same type of recurring brain tumors were alive after three years when undergoing the previously available standard.
